The management, staff, and esteemed guests of Igbinedion University Okada gathered today at the residence of the renowned Chancellor, Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, to hold a special 17th Senate session in his honor, Myschoolnews report.
The occasion marked the celebration of his 89th birthday and the recognition of his extraordinary contributions as a benefactor, educationist, and notable figure in Nigeria’s education sector.
Led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, PhD, FAS, the university community came together to pay tribute to the Chancellor’s remarkable achievements and express their heartfelt gratitude. Professor Ezemonye, speaking on behalf of Igbinedion University Okada, described Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion as a gift to the world. He offered prayers for the Chancellor’s good health and sound mind, hoping that the hand of God would continue to guide him.
In a comprehensive overview of the university’s progress, Professor Nosakhare Bazuaye, Chief Medical Director of Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital in Okada, updated the Chancellor on the hospital’s notable achievements and advancements under his guidance.
During the Senate session, participants expressed their deep admiration and respect for Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, referring to him as a cherished father and true legend. They hailed him as an epitome of excellence, noting his remarkable accomplishments that have greatly influenced various sectors of the country’s economy. Notably, Professor Kirk Semple, a renowned Professor of Environment and Microbiology at Lancaster University in the United Kingdom, sent a goodwill message to the Esama of Benin through his representative, Dr. Akanimo Odom.
Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, the Esama of Benin, Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, thanked the academia for celebrating his 89th birthday. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, along with representatives from various departments, presented the Chancellor with heartfelt birthday gifts, symbolising their appreciation for his invaluable contributions.
