Kogi State Government Makes Tax Clearance Mandatory for Tertiary Admissions
The Kogi State Government has introduced a new policy requiring students seeking admission into tertiary institutions in the state to present a tax clearance certificate. This move is aimed at ensuring that parents and guardians are tax compliant.
In a related development, Professor Nuhu Yaqub, a former Vice Chancellor of Sokoto State University and the University of Abuja, has called on the Kogi State Government to introduce local languages into the primary and secondary school curriculum. Yaqub argued that teaching local languages would encourage inclusivity and promote cultural values among different ethnic groups in the state.
Yaqub's call is supported by the President of De Club 10 Kogi Central, Leramoh Abdulrazaq Onivehu, who expressed concern that the Ebira language is gradually going out of fashion among Ebira people. Onivehu called on parents to prioritize speaking their native language to their children.
The Kogi State Government has been urged to reconsider its policy on tax clearance for students, with many calling for a more inclusive and equitable approach to education.
