Kwara State College of Education, Oro Reopens Following Improved Security

The Kwara State College of Education (KWCOE), Oro, has officially reopened for academic and administrative activities as of Monday, February 2, 2026. The resumption follows a directive from the Executive Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, after a period of closure due to heightened security concerns in the region. 

Immediate Resumption: An internal memorandum (Ref: CEO/ADMIN/27/Vol. 1/268) issued on February 2 confirmed that the college reopened with immediate effect.

Wider School Reopening: This reopening is part of a broader state-wide mandate to resume educational activities in schools that were previously shut down due to banditry and kidnapping threats.

Security Restoration: The Kwara State Government cited improved security conditions and sustained military operations, which reportedly neutralised numerous criminal elements and restored calm to previously volatile areas in Kwara South and North.

Ongoing Vigilance: Despite the reopening, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, emphasized that the government remains vigilant and will continue security operations to sustain current safety gains. 

The institution was temporarily shut down on January 20, 2026, as a precautionary measure to protect students and staff from growing insecurity around the host community. The closure disrupted academic activities for approximately two weeks and prompted a comprehensive security review before the current resumption. 

The College Management has expressed appreciation to the state government and security agencies for their support in ensuring a safe return to campus.
