Kwara State University Launches First Cohort of Ilesha-Baruba Women Development Centre Graduates with Empowerment Tools
The Centre is one of three set up in each senatorial district of the state, aiming to enhance community development. Professor Jimoh announced plans to open another Centre in Moro local government area and to expand future cohorts from 10 to 20 to cover more areas.
The Kwara State University Centre for Women Development and Entrepreneurship in Ilesha-Baruba held its first graduation ceremony. The event marked the completion of training for ten women, who received certificates and empowerment tools.
Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, addressed the graduates, urging them to be exemplary representatives of both the institution and their communities. He emphasized that the Centre was established to provide women with vocational skills for self-sufficiency and job creation. The Emir of Ilesha-Baruba, His Royal Highness Professor Halidu Abubakar, expressed gratitude to the university for its commitment to community development, noting the positive impact of the training and empowerment on the local area.
Professor Mubaraq Sanni, Chairman of the Committee for the Centres for Women Development, praised the university management for their vision and dedication. He highlighted the significant impact of the program on the community.
The ceremony featured the presentation of certificates, industrial sewing machines, and Android phones for e-marketing. Three graduates received cash prizes and Certificates of Excellence for their discipline, enterprise, and punctuality. The training and tools provided aim to help the women establish businesses, market their products, and achieve self-reliance.
