The Federal Government of Nigeria has identified Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, as one of six institutions slated to receive a solar power plant, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has disclosed.
Speaking on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, during the university’s orientation programme for newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 session, Prof. Popoola praised the initiative, noting that the project, once completed, will address challenges associated with epileptic electricity supply on campus.
“The Federal Government has identified our university among six selected institutions. They are going to install a solar power plant so that we don’t have to rely solely on the national grid for our energy needs. The project has already commenced, and I am confident it will be completed during your time as students, ensuring a 24/7 power supply,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor also urged the new students to make responsible use of their admission opportunity, advising them to focus on academics, obey university rules, and avoid negative practices such as cultism, violence, examination malpractice, and drug abuse, warning that any breach would attract disciplinary action.
He further emphasised the importance of hard work and effective use of campus facilities, including the library and academic resources, to support their intellectual development.
Prof. Popoola commended the Dean of the Division of Student Affairs (DSA), Dr. (Mrs) Justina Ogboru, and her team for organising the orientation, advising students to leverage the support services provided by the Division.
In her welcome address, Dr. Ogboru explained that the orientation aimed to equip students with essential information to guide their conduct and promote academic success. She encouraged new students to adhere to rules on dress code, student association membership, and proper conduct on campus.
The five-day orientation programme, held at the Babatunde Ipaye Lecture Theatre and the Sports Complex, included presentations on topics such as:
- “The Youth and Social Media”
- “Understanding the Course Unit System”
- “Student Activities and Voluntary Organisations”
- “Time Management and Counselling Services”
- “Entrepreneurship and Vocational Development”
- “Campus Culture, Ethics, and Relationship with University Authority”
- “Students and the Ondo Community”
- “Financial Transactions, Examination Regulations, Prizes and Awards”
- “Sports and Student Integrity at AFUED”
The programme concluded with a call for students to fully engage with university life, take advantage of available resources, and commit to excellence both academically and socially.
