On Saturday, August 31, 2024, the first set of ten graduates from the Kwara State University Centre for Women Development and Entrepreneurship in Ilesha-Baruba celebrated their achievements with a graduation ceremony. The event marked the successful completion of their training and the receipt of valuable empowerment tools.

Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, praised the graduates and urged them to serve as exemplary representatives of both the institution and their communities. He emphasized the Centre's mission to provide women with vocational skills, promoting self-sufficiency and job creation within their communities. The Centre is one of three established in each Senatorial district of Kwara State to drive community development.

Professor Jimoh also announced plans for the establishment of a new Centre in Moro Local Government Area, aimed at extending the University’s reach and benefits to a broader population. He reassured the Ilesha-Baruba community that future cohorts will increase from ten to twenty, enhancing the program’s impact.

The Emir of Ilesha-Baruba, His Royal Highness Professor Halidu Abubakar, expressed his gratitude to the university management for their dedication to community development. He noted the positive influence the Centre’s training and empowerment will have on the local community.

Professor Mubaraq Sanni, Chairman of the Committee for the Centres for Women Development, also commended the university’s vision and commitment. He highlighted the program’s significant impact and the management’s ongoing dedication to community advancement.

The graduation ceremony featured the presentation of certificates, industrial sewing machines, and Android phones for e-marketing purposes. Additionally, three graduates were honored with cash prizes and Certificates of Excellence for their exceptional discipline, enterprise, and punctuality throughout the training.

The newly equipped graduates are now poised to establish their own enterprises, market their products effectively, and achieve greater self-reliance.
