Lagos Students Plan Solidarity Walk in August, Reject National Protest
Lagos students from various tertiary institutions announced they will hold a "Solidarity Walk" from August 1 to 10, instead of participating in the planned national protest '#EndBadGovernanceinNigeria.'
Students from various tertiary institutions in Lagos State have announced their decision to distance themselves from the planned national protest tagged '#EndBadGovernanceinNigeria,' scheduled for August 1 to 10. Instead, the students will hold a “Solidarity Walk” on the same dates to support Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration and its commitment to education.

During a press conference at the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja, student leaders under the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Lagos axis emphasized their support for the state government. The solidarity walk aims to promote peace and prevent a recurrence of the #EndSARS protests of 2020.
Comrade Lekan Alimi, Chairman of NANS Lagos, described the planned national protests as “absolutely uncalled for.” He highlighted the need for constructive dialogue with the government instead of protests, urging students to focus on positive actions like community development projects and academic excellence.
“In these trying times, it is crucial that we remember the importance of stability, peace, and constructive dialogue in achieving our collective goals. We are not in support of any protest against the government in Lagos,” Alimi stated.

He also praised the Lagos State Government for its advancements and efforts to alleviate economic challenges, encouraging other states to follow Lagos's example.
Comrade Hafiz Olufowobi, President of the National Association of Lagos State Students, noted that Governor Sanwo-Olu's administration has made significant contributions to education, including the establishment of new schools and increased funding for existing institutions. He cited the Governor’s efforts to provide bursaries, scholarships, and job opportunities for students.
Comrade Titilayo Ekundayo, Chairman of the National Female Students Association of Nigeria (Lagos chapter), expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided to women in the state and affirmed that female students would not participate in any protests.

The student leaders collectively voiced their commitment to preserving peace in Lagos and collaborating with the government for a brighter future. They invited all students, youth organizations, and citizens to join the Solidarity Walk from August 1 to 10 to show their support for the government's efforts and their dedication to unity and progress.
