In a bold move that cements its reputation as a trailblazer in higher education, Lagos State University (LASU) has achieved full digital integration, ushering in a new era of technology-driven teaching and learning. The initiative marks a transformative step towards creating a smarter, more interactive academic environment where students can comfortably attend lectures online.

The innovation, spearheaded by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, aligns with LASU’s longstanding commitment to technology-based education and global best practices in digital learning.
At a strategic meeting held in the Senate Chamber, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, the DVCs met with Provosts, Deans, Academic Directors, Heads of Departments, and course lecturers managing classes with over 400 students. Discussions centred on the deployment of LASU’s digital learning infrastructure — including the Learning Management System (LMS), DigiLearn, Zoom, and LASU Radio 95.7 FM — to enhance virtual teaching efficiency across faculties.
In his opening address, Professor Afisi stated that the transition to virtual learning was not merely a response to global trends but a strategic policy designed to strengthen the university’s teaching quality and learning outcomes. Backed by Professor Enikuomehin, he announced that all classes with 400 or more students would henceforth be conducted digitally.
Dr. Jamiu Yahya, Manager of LASU Radio 95.7 FM, assured participants of the station’s readiness to broadcast lectures as part of the digital expansion. He explained that broadcasts would follow professional standards, including scheduled call-in sessions and structured time management to foster interactive learning.
To ensure seamless implementation, Mr. Dayo Olubakin and Mr. J. B. Ashiyanbi were appointed as Radio Monitoring Managers, while Mr. Bolaji Odediran will serve as Zoom Manager. The University’s Zoom package has also been upgraded to accommodate over 2,000 participants and provide unlimited cloud storage — a development made possible by the visionary leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM.
During the session, Professor Olufemi Lawal, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, conducted a live demonstration of a Zoom lecture, showcasing etiquette for virtual teaching, including lecturers’ dress codes and online engagement techniques. Professor Enikuomehin also demonstrated the LASU DigiLearn platform (web.lasu.edu.ng/digilearn), illustrating its real-time interaction, feedback, and assessment features.
He announced that specific venues have been equipped for recording digital lectures and reiterated that Telegram and other unapproved apps are not permitted for official teaching. Lecturers are to log in using their PF numbers, while students must identify themselves with their surnames and matriculation numbers.
Offering expert input, Professor Benjamin S. Aribisala, Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Science, advised lecturers and students to maintain stable internet connections, take screenshots of key lecture slides, and engage in online quizzes to promote consistency and interactivity.
In a major announcement, Professor Afisi revealed that the University’s Virtual Laboratory (V-LAB) will officially commence operations on Monday, November 3, 2025 — a milestone that further reinforces LASU’s digital leadership. He tasked Deans and Heads of Departments to ensure full compliance and functionality across all units.

With these innovations, Lagos State University has positioned itself as a national leader in digital education, integrating virtual classrooms, digital radio, and interactive platforms into one cohesive learning ecosystem.
Through the unwavering vision of Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, LASU continues to demonstrate that innovation, technology, and academic excellence can seamlessly coexist to redefine the future of learning in Nigeria.
