LASU Trains Newly Admitted Students in Digital Literacy and Academic Orientation
The Lagos State University (LASU), through its Centre for General Nigerian Studies (CGNS), in collaboration with the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), has organised a digital literacy and academic orientation workshop for newly admitted students of the 2025/2026 academic session.

Held on Tuesday, 4th November 2025, at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, the workshop aimed to equip students with essential digital skills and orientation for a smooth academic journey in the university.
The training featured two sessions. The morning session hosted students from the Faculties of Arts, Science, Law, Computing and Information Technology, and the School of Agriculture, while the afternoon session accommodated those from the Faculties of Education, Management Sciences, Social Sciences, Communication and Media Studies, and the Schools of Transport and Logistics, and Library, Archival and Information Science.
Declaring the event open, the Director, Centre for General Nigerian Studies (CGNS), Professor M. O. B. Mohammed, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, congratulated the students for being among the few admitted from over 70,000 applicants. He encouraged them to be inquisitive, disciplined, and dedicated to their studies, while revealing that each student would receive a compendium covering all GNS courses up to their third year.
In his presentation, the Director, Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, represented by Mr Segun Olabayo, educated students on procedures for online classes, assessments, and examinations. He recommended the use of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari for online activities, and warned against impersonation or the use of Artificial Intelligence for academic dishonesty, noting that all activities are closely monitored.

The Dean, Faculty of Education, Professor Olugbenga Akindoju, urged students to complete course registration early and seek academic guidance from advisers. He emphasised consistency, time management, and focus on academic excellence.
Also speaking, the Vice-President of the Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU), Abisuga Moyosoluwa, encouraged the new intakes to uphold discipline and represent the university positively, while the Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs Division, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, described the division as the students’ “foster parents” and advised them to seek guidance whenever necessary.
The Deputy Bursar, Mr T. Omoyin, represented by Mr Aderinkola, cautioned students against making payments through third parties and advised them to use only the official university payment channels.
Speaking on the GNS E-Learning Platform, the Assistant Director, CGNS, Dr Idowu Sylvester, highlighted the university’s leadership in digital innovation and commended its integration of online teaching and learning systems.
Similarly, the Head, LASU Radio 95.7FM, Dr Yahaya Jamiu, explained the station’s role in supporting GNS programmes and advised students to use the university’s website to access radio content when signal issues arise.
The Deputy Registrar, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Lateef Sekoni, urged students to prioritise their academics and maintain moderation in social activities, while Professor Olufemi Lawal encouraged them to study the GNS compendium thoroughly.
The President of LASUSU, Comrade Adebayo Peter, officially welcomed the new students and commended CGNS and DICT for their collaborative efforts in organising the training.

The workshop will continue at the Epe Campus on Thursday, 6th November 2025, for students of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, as well as Direct Entry students from the Faculty of Engineering and the School of Agriculture.
