LASU VC At Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Programme

Carnegie Fellows LAUD LASU Agriculture Students, as VC holds exit meeting with Virginia University Dons after six weeks of fellowship programme.

Two Fellows of the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Programme (CADFP), Prof. Richard Omotoye and Dr. Leonard Githinji have described students of the Lagos State University School of Agriculture, Epe campus as a brilliant and enthusiastic lot who are eager to learn. 

The two academics from the Virginia State University who had just completed their 6-week Fellowship at the School of Agriculture, lauded the students while reporting their experience at the Epe Campus to the Vice Chancellor and other members of the University Management on Friday, 28th July 2023 at the Vice Chancellor's Conference Room. 

They also expressed satisfaction at the progress being achieved at the faculty, and the optimism that the six weeks collaboration would further enhance the teaching and learning of Agriculture in the University.

Dean of the School and host of the programme, Prof. Olatunji Abanikannda, in his submission, explained that the visiting scholars assisted in benchmarking the School's curriculum with that of Virginia State University in a bid to improve it. They also conducted farm extension demonstrations and drills, ran workshops and held dialogues with stakeholders on the strategic partnership needs facing the Nigerian Agricultural Industry.  

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, in her remark, expressed her hope that the engagement would lead to a mutually-beneficial partnership between Lagos State University and Virginia State University. She said, "Like you have rightly observed, we have excellent and enthusiastic students and if we keep producing such students, we would be taking a big step towards dealing with the issue of food insecurity in the country. I look forward to entering a partnership that would give our staff and students opportunities for exchange programmes."

The exit meeting was also attended by the immediate-past commissioner for Agriculture in Ekiti State, Prince Adetoye Olabode who commended the university administration for its giant strides.
