LASUED Theatre Arts Department Welcomes New Students at "Okàn Kàn" Induction Ceremony
The Association of Theatre Arts Students (ATAS) of the Department of Theatre and Performing Arts, College of Humanities Education, Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), on Friday 5th December, 2025 held its annual induction ceremony for 100-level students with the theme “Okàn Kàn” (“One Heart”). The event, held at the crowd-pleasing Oluremi Tinubu Hall on the University’s Oto/Ijanikin Main Campus, captivated staff, students, parents, and guests.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. M. A. Shittu, in the speech delivered on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor urged the inductees to carry themselves with the pride and joy befitting their chosen profession. She encouraged them to strive for excellence, make good use of the opportunities and facilities available to them, and remain committed to hard work and discipline. She further assured them of the University’s continuous support, commended the dedication of lecturers and parents, and congratulated the College and the Department for successfully hosting the ceremony.
The Head of Department, Dr. Afeez Oyetoro, reminded the inductees that the profession demands utmost discipline and dedication, emphasising that “hard work is the profit in this profession.” Also speaking, the Chief Priest for the ceremony, Mr. Segun Adetela, advised the students not to “play with their play,” stressing that theatre is not for the faint-hearted. He encouraged them to prepare for the demands of the craft, remain intellectually strong, and embrace theatre as a holistic way of life.
