In a statement released via its official channels on Wednesday morning, LASUTH's management confirmed the implementation of heightened alertness and preventive protocols. The hospital's staff have been mobilized to handle potential increases in cases, while also promoting good hygiene practices, providing clean water, and administering effective treatment to patients exhibiting cholera symptoms.
The statement emphasized LASUTH's readiness to address the outbreak, stating, "All staff are prepared for a potential increase in cases even though the hospital is also promoting good hygiene practices, providing clean water, and effectively treating patients with cholera symptoms."
The management urged Lagos residents to remain informed and adopt preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease, emphasizing the importance of maintaining good hygiene and seeking prompt medical attention if symptoms develop.
The statement further clarified, "Scores of patients presented yesterday, Tuesday 11th June 2024 to some healthcare facilities across the state with features in keeping with cholera. Consequently, it is important to inform the general public that the only state-owned tertiary healthcare facility, LASUTH, is on red alert and our healthcare workers as well as other stakeholders have been put on notice in readiness for a possible spread as ours is a referral facility."
LASUTH's proactive response to the cholera outbreak underscores its commitment to public health and safety, with measures in place to mitigate the spread of the disease and ensure the well-being of patients and the community at large.
