Two hundred and three hundred level students of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, are undergoing training on the production and application of paints, ranging from emulsion to gloss, as part of preparations for the re-accreditation of the programme in the Oyo State-owned institution.

The initiative forms part of the Students Work Experience Programme (SWEP), which is compulsory for undergraduates in the department at those academic levels. This year, the training focused on the production of emulsion and glossy paints, which the students subsequently used to beautify the administrative building and departmental offices.

In addition to hands-on paint production, the students were exposed to the use of industry-standard simulation software, including MATLAB and ASPEN Plus. The training covered process simulation, modelling, and system design, aimed at equipping the students with both technical and practical knowledge required for solving complex engineering problems.

The department, noted for its commitment to product development since its inception, emphasised that the blend of practical skills and digital proficiency would enhance the competence of students and strengthen the department’s position as it prepares for the forthcoming accreditation exercise.
