McPherson University Student Champions Girl-Child Health with "Pad a Girl" Outreach
Fathia Afolabi, a 300-level Public Health student at McPherson University, has reinforced her commitment to humanitarian service through a significant health intervention at Ajebo High School. Under the auspices of the Afolabi Fathia Foundation, the outreach provided sanitary products and vital health education to over 200 schoolgirls.
This latest initiative follows Afolabi’s previous philanthropic efforts, which included sponsoring WAEC examination fees for indigent students, further cementing her reputation as a rising community leader.
The "Pad a Girl" outreach transcended mere donation, offering comprehensive seminars led by guest speakers Ms. Aremo Oluwabunmi and Ms. Olajumoke Ogunleye.
Addressing the students, Fathia Afolabi emphasized the necessity of breaking the silence surrounding female physiology. "Too many young girls grow up confused about their bodies with no safe space to ask questions," she noted. "This initiative creates that safe space through education and honest conversations that help girls make informed choices and protect their future."
She further challenged the beneficiaries to become ambassadors for the girl-child, advocating for responsible living and peer support within their communities.
The project exemplifies the mission of McPherson University to produce graduates who integrate academic excellence with proactive community service. By addressing "period poverty" and health illiteracy, Afolabi’s work highlights the university’s role in nurturing socially conscious leaders who drive tangible change in their immediate environment.
