Nasarawa State University Launches First Global Medical Geology Degree Programs
Nasarawa State University Keffi has introduced the first global Medical Geology postgraduate programs at its new research center.
Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) has initiated the world’s first Medical Geology Post Graduate programs, according to an announcement by Dr. Kitso Nghargbu, Director of Linkages and International Cooperation at the university. The programs, now offered at the Jose Centino International Centre for Medical Geology (JacMedGeo) Research, mark a pioneering step in the field.
Medical geology, a multidisciplinary and emerging discipline, saw its first textbook published in 2005. Dr. Kitso emphasized that NSUK’s programs set a global precedent, offering Post Graduate Diploma, Master's, and Doctorate levels.

The curriculum, prepared and peer-reviewed by leading experts in medical geology, has received approval from relevant education authorities and the university Senate. The Post Graduate Diploma program will take 18 months, the Master's program 24 months, and the Doctorate program up to 48 months.

Admissions are now open, with forms available for the next eight weeks, followed by a two-week shortlisting process and a three-week period for resumption and registration. The program boasts an impressive faculty of 32 international experts. Notably, the Deputy Minister of Technology of Iran has expressed interest in joining as a part-time lecturer.
Medical geology studies geological processes such as earthquakes, volcanoes, climate change, flooding, and tsunamis, as well as materials like minerals, rocks, and medicinal waters that impact human health and the environment. This new program aims to advance research and education in these critical areas.
