Niger State College of Education Gains Dual Mandate Status with New Law
The Niger State House of Assembly passed a bill granting the Niger State College of Education, Minna, the authority to offer degree programs alongside its NCE courses.
The Niger State House of Assembly today passed two pivotal bills during its plenary session. The first bill repeals the Niger State College of Education Law of 2011 and re-establishes the Niger State College of Education, granting it dual mandate status. This new law, sponsored by Hon. Muhammad Sani Idris, the representative for Tafa Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Science, and Technology, enables the college to offer degree programs in addition to its existing National Certificate in Education (NCE) courses.
Once assented to by His Excellency the Governor, this law will position the Niger State College of Education, Minna, to enhance its academic offerings, providing students with broader educational opportunities in education-related fields.
The assembly also passed another significant piece of legislation today: the "Bill for a Law to Establish the Abdussalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, 2024." The bill was read for the third time after a comprehensive report from the House Committee on Education, Science, and Technology, leading to its successful passage.
These legislative actions reflect the government's commitment to improving education and addressing the pressing challenges of climate action and agricultural advancement in the state. The establishment of new academic institutions is expected to foster innovation and equip students with the skills needed for the evolving job market.
The Niger State House of Assembly's efforts underline the importance of educational reform and development, promising a brighter future for students and the community at large.
