Nigeria Union of Journalists Congratulates ABU New Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed

The Zaria Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has congratulated Prof. Adamu Ahmed on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

Led by its Chairman, Malam Sagir Mohammed Awwal, NUJ executives visited the university on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, to formally felicitate with the new VC. Sagir described Prof. Ahmed as a dedicated, honest, and innovative leader, and also congratulated ABU staff, students, and alumni on his appointment.

He praised ABU for its academic excellence and remarkable contributions to national development, noting the long-standing cordial relationship between the institution and journalists in Zaria. He expressed the union’s readiness to further promote the university’s activities and urged the institution to provide training and retraining opportunities to enhance journalists’ skills.

Prof. Ahmed, while receiving the delegation, appreciated the NUJ’s support and described journalists as friends of the university. He pledged continued cooperation, noting that many positive developments at ABU often go unnoticed by the public.

The Vice-Chancellor revealed that ABU’s global ranking has significantly improved, and the university recently won the JAMB Mega Prize of ₦500 million. On the NUJ’s training request, he encouraged the union to submit a formal proposal detailing the specific capacity-building programmes they require.
