The commendation was given by the President of the religious group Reverend (Dr) Jonathan Ihwighwu during a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor in his office to commemorate the annual gathering of Baptists in the area to “discuss the business of God and to take decisions on how to move it forward”.

Rev. Dr. Ihwighwu who recently defended his Doctorate thesis at the Delta State University, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for his gender sensitivity which had ensured that out of seven principal officers, four were women. He also informed their hosts that three of the principal officers were Baptists, arguing, rather ingeniously, that, “DELSU is becoming Baptistic!”. Indeed, three of them are highly placed members of the Baptist Convention with Dr. (Mrs) Josephine Onowhakpor, the University Librarian, as the President, Women Missionary Union, Nigerian Baptist Convention.

The President explained that it was their practice to visit prominent persons and institutions in the area of their conference venue, adding that they were around to appreciate the Vice-Chancellor for what the Lord had been using him to do, describing it as “beyond expectations”.

According to him, the Conference for this year, being the 10th anniversary, held a huge fascination for members, noting that the President would be rotating out of office this year, having led God’s people for a decade.

The President led a short but vigorous prayer session to hand over the Vice-Chancellor, his management team and the entire University Community into the hands of God for provision and protection in order for the top administrator “to finish well and finish strong”. He presented a special gift of a giant print Bible to the Vice-Chancellor who also presented a gift in exchange.

Welcoming the guests to his office, the Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor (Mrs) Rosemary Okoh, expressed delight at the visit and congratulated them on their 10th Anniversary.

While expressing gratitude for the special Bible presentation which will make “Bible reading a lot more interesting” he added that he highly coveted their prayers and good wishes.
