Nigerian Government Commends BEA Scholarship Awardees Departing for International Studies
During the pre-departure ceremony for the 83 Nigerians awarded Moroccan scholarships, the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, lauded the scholars for their academic excellence and commitment. He emphasized the importance of being exemplary ambassadors for Nigeria in their host countries.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed satisfaction with the number of scholarships awarded to Nigerian students through the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) for the 2023/2024 academic session. Despite the global economic challenges, a total of 230 beneficiaries, selected through a rigorous process, are set to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Hungary (72), Russia (175), and Morocco (83).

The minister highlighted that the success of these scholars reflects the commitment of their parents and teachers in instilling values and ethics necessary for academic success. He congratulated the parents for their role in nurturing the scholars and commended the teachers for providing the knowledge that qualified the students for the prestigious scholarships.
Professor Mamman noted that the scholarship program aligns with the broader plan to deepen President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope Agenda.' This initiative aims to support brilliant Nigerians, especially those who may face financial constraints, in acquiring knowledge, skills, and competencies relevant to Nigeria's development agenda.

Despite global economic challenges, the Minister of Education revealed an increase in the number of development partners offering scholarships to Nigeria. He urged the scholars not to view the scholarship as mere freedom but as an investment by Nigeria, expecting returns in the form of their contribution to the nation's progress upon their return.
The Minister enjoined parents to uphold the scholars in prayers and provide sound advice, emphasizing the nation's investment in the awardees and the expectation of their positive impact on Nigeria's development upon completion of their studies.
