In a remarkable display of academic prowess and dedication, Okoro Benjamin, a young Nigerian hailing from Anambra state, has etched his name in history as the first Nigerian to graduate with a first-class degree in Pharmacy from Voronezh State University in Russia. His extraordinary achievement is underscored by his impressive cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.65 out of 5, making him the top student in his faculty.

He graduated from the Federal Government College in Anambra as a top-performing student, securing a remarkable 8As distinction out of the 9 subjects he sat for in his senior secondary school certificate examination. Eager to pursue his dream of studying Pharmacy, he initially applied to the University of Port Harcourt but faced admission challenges due to the institution's high cut-off mark. Determined and undaunted, Benjamin took the Nigeria Federal Scholarship Board Exam, excelled with flying colors, and earned a coveted scholarship to study Pharmacy at Voronezh State University in Russia.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Nigeria has one of the lowest ratios of pharmacists to population in Africa, with only 0.2 pharmacists per 10,000 people, far below the recommended minimum of 2.5 pharmacists per 10,000 people. This scarcity has adverse effects on the availability and accessibility of essential medicines and healthcare services.
