Northwest University Kano Bids Farewell to Vice Chancellor Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa in Grand Style
The atmosphere at Northwest University Kano was filled with emotions and celebration on Wednesday, 15th October 2025, as the tenure of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, officially came to an end.
His final day in office was marked by remarkable events that reflected his enduring legacy and the deep affection shared by members of the University community.
The day began with a meeting between Professor Kurawa and the Principal Officers of the University, where he formally concluded his administrative duties and signed the official handover documents, symbolizing the peaceful transition of leadership. In line with the University’s succession procedure, Professor Aisha Garba Habib, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), assumed leadership in an acting capacity.
As part of his farewell activities, Professor Kurawa commissioned a gigantic building constructed by the late philanthropist Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata in the heart of the main campus. The edifice, named “Hajiya Rabi Aminu Dantata Female Students Common Room,” stands as a monumental gift to the University community and a proof to the Dantata family’s commitment to educational development.
Following the commissioning, the outgoing Vice Chancellor proceeded to inspect the site of the newly approved YUMSUK Microfinance Bank Limited, a CBN-licensed Tier II Non-interest (Islamic) Microfinance Bank, established under his visionary leadership. The visit was aimed at assessing the level of preparedness toward the commencement of the bank’s operations—another milestone achievement that highlights his dedication to financial innovation and staff welfare.
After the official engagements, members of the University community trooped to his office to bid him farewell. The occasion quickly turned into a massive procession, as staff, students, and even alumni of the University accompanied Professor Kurawa from his office to his residence in a grand and emotional farewell parade. The outpouring of love and respect demonstrated the profound impact of his leadership and the admiration he earned throughout his tenure.
During his five-year stewardship, Professor Kurawa distinguished himself as a visionary administrator, championing academic excellence, infrastructural transformation, research development, and institutional partnerships that elevated Northwest University Kano to new heights of national recognition.
His exit marks the end of a remarkable era in the history of the institution, but his legacy of integrity, innovation, and commitment to educational advancement will continue to inspire generations of staff and students to come.
Indeed, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa exits the stage not just as a Vice Chancellor, but as a transformational leader whose name will remain deeply engraved in the history of Northwest University Kano.
