NUC Disowns Report on '100 Fake Professors

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has categorically disclaimed an online report alleging the discovery of 100 fake professors in Nigerian universities. In a statement released by the acting executive secretary, Chris Maiyaki, the NUC clarified that while it initiated a verification process in 2019 to compile and publish a list of full professors, it did not release any list of fake professors in 2024.

Maiyaki stated, “The commission can confirm that it initiated in 2019 a laudable project to compile and publish a list of full professors in the Nigerian Universities System (NUS). However, the commission did not engage in the release of a list of fake professors in 2024."

Consequently, the collated data was shared with Nigerian universities for authentication by competent authorities to ensure the accuracy of the information.
