NYSC Announces Release of One Abducted Corps Member in Zamfara

In August 2023, it was reported that eight corps members, accompanied by a driver, were kidnapped while en route to camp in Zamfara State. The corps members were traveling in a bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State for their one-year mandatory national service when they were intercepted by the attackers. During the incident, three of the corps members managed to escape, leaving eight in captivity, along with the driver.

NYSC Announces Release of One Abducted Corps Member in Zamfara

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management has reported the release of one of the corps members abducted by suspected terrorists in Zamfara State.

In August 2023, it was reported that eight corps members, accompanied by a driver, were kidnapped while en route to camp in Zamfara State. The corps members were traveling in a bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State for their one-year mandatory national service when they were intercepted by the attackers. The NYSC initially blamed the kidnapped corps members for their plight, as they were traveling for their primary assignments. Both the police and the army had organized search parties to locate the abducted corps members.

In the latest update, Eddy Megwa, the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, announced that one of the seven remaining captive corps members and the bus driver were successfully rescued on Friday. The NYSC expressed confidence that the efforts of security agencies would lead to the rescue of the remaining abductees.

The NYSC emphasized the importance of personal security for Corps Members and called on them to prioritize their safety. They also reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the security and welfare of Corps Members at all times.
