The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), located in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has refuted claims of granting mining licenses or entering into agreements with miners for mining activities on the university campus.

In a statement signed by the university's spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, the institution clarified that it had not authorized any mining activities on its land and had not entered into any leases or agreements with illegal miners.

Upon discovering the illegal mining activities, the university promptly lodged a formal complaint with the appropriate government authorities.

The statement emphasized that claims made by unauthorized individuals, groups, or companies regarding having licenses or the university's consent for mining were entirely false.Furthermore, OAU assured the public, especially its alumni and stakeholders, that it had not granted consent to any entity to carry out mining activities on its premises or signed any agreements for such purposes.
