Abducted Sokoto Islamic Pupils Rescued by Nigerian Army

Seventeen Tsangaya pupils who were abducted from a Qur’anic school in Gidan Bakuso village, Sokoto State, have been freed from captivity. The pupils were kidnapped by armed bandits on March 9, 2024, during an attack on the community.

According to Abubakar Bawa, Press Secretary to the Sokoto State Governor, the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), successfully rescued the abducted pupils.

Upon their release, Governor Ahmed Aliyu expressed gratitude to the military and ONSA for their efforts in securing the safe return of the children. He confirmed that all the rescued pupils, including a female student, underwent medical examinations to ensure their well-being and readiness for reunification with their families.

Governor Aliyu also announced a donation of two bags of grains and N100,000 to each of the rescued pupils, urging continued support from the people of Sokoto State in the government's commitment to ensuring security.

Brigadier General Alex Amos Tawasimi, the Garrison Commander of the 8 Division Nigerian Army Sokoto, commended Governor Aliyu for his unwavering support to the military in the fight against banditry in the state.
