In a landmark development for international collaboration, Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) officially inaugurated a strategic partnership with Pennsylvania State University, College Park, USA, on Monday, 12th January 2026.

The event, hosted at Oluremi Tinubu Hall, Oto/Ijanikin Main Campus, welcomed a delegation from the U.S.-based institution.

Delivering her remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye highlighted the transformative potential of the partnership. She stated, “This collaboration is founded on the shared belief that education thrives when institutions transcend borders, exchange ideas freely, and work collectively to address both global and local challenges. The Memorandum of Understanding before us establishes a framework for cooperation in pedagogy, faculty and student exchange, collaborative research, leadership development, mentorship, training, and sharing of educational resources and technologies.”

Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye further underscored LASUED’s mandate as a young, fast-rising university, emphasizing its focus on redefining teacher education, promoting research-driven practices, and producing globally competitive graduates. She noted that the institution’s governance philosophy—the A.C.H.I.E.V.E agenda—prioritizes Academic Culture, Community Relations, Human Capacity Development, Infrastructural Development, Entrepreneurship, Valuable Research, and Excellence in Professionalism.

“The MoU is not merely ceremonial,” she continued, “but a living instrument designed to foster joint research addressing educational, social, and developmental challenges, enable cross-cultural academic mobility, strengthen leadership and governance, and support innovation, entrepreneurship, and workforce readiness in a rapidly changing global economy.”

Expressing enthusiasm about the collaborative opportunities, Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye remarked, “This partnership offers platforms for knowledge co-creation, comparative educational research, and the development of globally informed teaching practices benefiting both our institutions and societies.” She commended the management teams of both universities for their meticulous efforts in refining the MoU and reaffirmed LASUED’s commitment to activating the agreement through tangible programs, measurable outcomes, and enduring professional relationships.

During the ceremony, Professor Mildred Boveda of Pennsylvania State University formally presented the Memorandum of Understanding, emphasizing the extensive collaborative prospects it offers. Professor Leah Hollis, also part of the delegation, praised LASUED for its hospitality and commended Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye for her outstanding leadership in driving institutional development.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Registrar Mr. Akinfemiwa Opeoluwa Akinlabi, followed by a guided tour of the university for the visiting delegation.
