The Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Lokoja, Kogi State, is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Director of Works and Maintenance Services.
The position is currently vacant, and the University’s Governing Council has commenced the selection process for a competent leader to oversee the Directorate.
Established by an Act of Law in 2011, FUL began academic activities in 2012 and has steadily grown to offer 60 programmes across 13 faculties, including a College of Health Sciences and a College of Postgraduate Studies. The University operates a main campus at Felele and a College of Health Sciences at Adankolo, both located within Lokoja metropolis.
The Director of Works and Maintenance Services reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor and is responsible for the day-to-day management, maintenance, and development of the University’s physical and infrastructural facilities. The Director will also manage the University’s vehicle fleet, supervise technical staff, oversee budgets, and provide expert advice on works and maintenance matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the renovation and maintenance of University buildings and infrastructure
- Manage the Works and Maintenance Services Department, including technical staff and budgets
- Supervise electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and other engineering installations
- Manage the University’s fleet and transportation infrastructure
- Advise University management on works and maintenance issues
- Ensure efficient and sustainable management of utilities (power, water)
Eligibility Criteria
A. Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of a good Honours Degree (2nd Class Lower Division or above) in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or Building Technology; a higher degree is an advantage
- Registered member of a relevant professional body with a current practicing license (e.g., COREN, NIA, NIQS, NSE, NIMechE)
- At least 15 years of post-qualification experience, including 10 years in senior management in works and maintenance, preferably in a Federal University
- Must have served as Deputy Director of Works for a minimum of 5 years
- Must not be over 60 years upon assumption of duty

- Strong leadership, managerial, and administrative skills
- Knowledge of contemporary management practices and sustainable infrastructure development
- High integrity, transparency, and professionalism
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills; team-oriented
- Proficiency in CAD and project management software
- Sound health, judgment, and pleasant disposition
Conditions of Service
- The appointment is for a single term of five (5) years
- Salary and benefits are in line with the Federal University system and as determined by the Governing Council
