OAU Management Urges Calm After Amphitheatre Ceiling Collapse Injures Students
The management of Obafemi Awolowo University has responded swiftly to the Amphitheatre ceiling collapse incident, ensuring that injured students receive adequate medical attention and implementing safety measures
Following an unfortunate incident on Thursday at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, where the ceiling of the Amphitheatre collapsed, injuring several students, the university's management has issued a call for calm.

According to a statement by the university’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju, the accident occurred due to torrential rainfall accompanied by a whirlwind, causing the ceiling of the Amphitheatre in the Oduduwa Hall to give way.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Adebayo Simeon Bamire, along with other principal officers, promptly visited the university’s Medical and Health Centre, where the injured students were rushed for medical treatment. Prof Bamire assured that the injured students received adequate medical attention.
In an effort to ensure the safety of students and staff, the Amphitheatre has been sealed off until further notice. The statement emphasized that academic and administrative activities should continue uninterrupted despite the closure of the venue.

The Vice-Chancellor personally supervised the transfer of two students requiring further medical attention to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where they received care under the supervision of Chief Medical Director Professor John Okeniyi.
While expressing regret over the incident, the university management has appealed for calm among students and staff. They have urged everyone to refrain from any form of untoward action and to cooperate with the ongoing safety measures.
As investigations into the cause of the collapse are underway, the management assured that necessary steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future. The safety and well-being of the university community remain a top priority for OAU.
