Over 29,000 Students Sit for Entrance Exams into Federal Technical Colleges – NABTEB

A total of 29,260 Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) students across Nigeria participated in the 2025 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) entrance examination, organized by the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB). 

The nationwide examination, aimed at granting admission into Federal Technical Colleges, was conducted smoothly at designated centers under the board’s supervision. 

At the Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC), Uromi—one of two centers in Edo State—Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, NABTEB Registrar/CEO (represented by Pius Osaigbovo, Director of Research and Quality Assurance), praised the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Education for strengthening the TVET programme, which he said has made technical colleges more attractive. 

He confirmed that only candidates who registered online before the June 12, 2025 deadline were allowed to sit the exam. 

“This year, we have 29,260 candidates compared to 7,547 last year. That’s a huge leap, thanks to the incentives introduced by the Ministry of Education,” he stated. 

Dr. Mohammed explained that the Federal Government’s goal is to empower youths with practical, job-ready skills, making them self-reliant and potentially employers of labour. 

Graduates of the program will receive dual certification: the standard NTC/NBTC certificate and the National Skills Qualification (NSQ), which focuses on competency-based assessments. 

“The TVET programme spans three years—80% practical training and 20% theory,” he added. 

He expressed optimism that Nigerians are increasingly valuing technical and vocational education, as reflected in the surge in enrollment for federal technical schools.
