Prof. Eboh Takes the Helm at UNIDEL, Sets Bold Agenda as Prof. Chiemeke Bows Out

A defining moment unfolded at the University of Delta, Agbor, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, as a historic leadership transition signaled both reflection and renewed ambition. 

In a ceremony marked by dignity and purpose, the institution’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stella Chiemeke, formally handed over the reins to her successor, Professor Eric Eboh—closing one chapter and igniting another.

Inside the Senate Chamber of the University, Professor Chiemeke presented her End-of-Tenure Reports and Financial Documents with measured clarity, offering a detailed account of five formative years that laid the University’s foundation. 

Her voice, calm yet resolute, carried both gratitude and conviction as she acknowledged divine guidance through her tenure and called on the University community to rally behind the new administration.

“God has given us a great man to move UNIDEL forward,” she declared—an endorsement that set the tone for continuity and confidence.

Speaking, Professor Eboh struck a deliberate note of respect and recalibration. He urged that the title “former Vice-Chancellor” be set aside in favor of “pioneer Vice-Chancellor,” a subtle but powerful recognition of Prof. Chiemeke's legacy. 

Then, without theatrics, he outlined a leadership philosophy anchored in transparency, integrity, accountability, and inclusive governance.

But it was his vision—crisp, structured, and forward-looking, that defined the moment.

Under the banner of “Project RAISE UNIDEL,” Eboh unveiled a five-pronged strategy designed to position the University as a national and global contender. 

The acronym, he explained, is more than a slogan, it is a blueprint: Research and Innovation; Academic Excellence; ICT-driven transformation; Staff development and welfare; and a conducive Environment for all stakeholders.

In a sector often weighed down by inertia, Prof. Eboh’s emphasis on measurable impact and global best practices signaled intent. 

His promise was clear: to elevate the UNIDEL brand beyond its youthful beginnings into a model of academic and research excellence.

“I will build on the solid foundation already laid,” he affirmed, “and provide the leadership needed to take this University to greater heights.”

The ceremony drew a cross-section of the University’s leadership, they include: Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Patrick Ijeh; Registrar, Barr. Richmond Omagbemi; Bursar, Dr. Sunny Ikeogwu; Librarian, Dr. Vera Okonoko; Registrar-designate, Dr. Mrs. Esther Akpojuvie; pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Patricia Mbah; alongside deans, directors and senior administrators, underscoring the institutional weight of the transition.

For UNIDEL, still in its early years, the handover was more than routine—it was symbolic. It marked the end of a pioneering era defined by structure-building and the beginning of a phase driven by expansion, innovation, and visibility.
