The Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in partnership with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, has successfully conducted a training program for Education Management Information System (EMIS) officers. The training, which aimed at enhancing data collection, was held to empower officers with the skills needed to improve education data management across the state.

The one-day event, titled "Training of Trainers for the Establishment of EMIS Desk Officers at 448 AGILE-Focus Secondary Schools," was designed to build the capacity of participants in data generation, management, and reporting.

Speaking at the event, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mohammed Tukur Alkali, emphasized that education remains a critical part of the state governor’s nine-point smart agenda. Represented by Dr. Kabiru Garba, the Director of Senior Secondary Schools in the ministry, Alkali highlighted the government's recent efforts to support education, including the payment of WAEC and NECO fees for students.

He noted that the state is making strides in modernizing its education system by training teachers to adopt digital tools, aligning them with global best practices. "We want our teachers to be digitally literate to keep pace with the current challenges in the education sector," Alkali remarked.

The commissioner urged the EMIS officers to remain focused during the training, reminding them of their responsibility to share the knowledge with their colleagues. He also appealed to the public to encourage girls to not only complete secondary education but also pursue higher education.

Suleiman Musa, the System Technical Lead for AGILE, highlighted the significance of accurate data for effective decision-making in education. He stressed that reliable data is essential for improving the quality of education across Sokoto State.

This training represents the Sokoto government’s commitment to advancing the education sector by leveraging data-driven approaches for better planning and execution.
