State Police Nab Fake EFCC Operatives Terrorising MOAU Students

The Abia State Police Command has apprehended three individuals who had been impersonating Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives to carry out armed robberies targeting students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU).

In a swift operation, the Abia State Police Command has apprehended three individuals who had been impersonating Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives to carry out armed robberies targeting students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU).

According to the police spokesperson in the state, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the arrest followed a tip-off received on Tuesday about a four-man gang donned in EFCC uniforms robbing students at their residence. The impersonators reportedly seized phones from the students and coerced them into transferring N120,000 to the assailants' bank accounts.

Upon receiving the information, the police promptly visited the crime scene and arrested three of the robbers at the Man-O-War base in MOUAU. Alongside the arrests, the police recovered six stolen phones and the operational tricycle used by the robbers during their criminal activities.

Further investigations revealed that the impersonators were in possession of counterfeit EFCC paraphernalia, including four EFCC jackets, two EFCC ID cards, one toy gun, and four EFCC search warrants. The suspects are currently in police custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
