The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Taraba State University, Jalingo, has condemned the ongoing victimization of its members at several public universities across Nigeria. Dr. Joshua Mbave, ASUU Chairman at Taraba State University, issued a press release criticizing the harassment and unjust treatment of union members, which he claims threatens academic freedom and institutional integrity.
Mbave called on state governments, governing councils, and relevant stakeholders to intervene and end these practices. He also demanded the immediate reinstatement of wrongfully dismissed members and urged universities to respect their autonomy and cease oppressive measures against staff who advocate for academic integrity.
The ASUU Chairman highlighted cases of victimization, including threats of dismissal, unjust suspensions, and the withholding of salaries and promotions. He warned that if universities do not comply, the union will pursue all available legal avenues to ensure justice for its members.
The release cited universities such as Lagos State University, Kogi State University, and Ebonyi State University among those where members have faced these issues. The ASUU at Taraba State University emphasizes the need for respect for academic freedom and fairness in the academic environment.
