Taraba State University has embarked on a comprehensive biometric verification exercise for its staff members, aimed at eliminating ghost workers and enhancing payroll accuracy. This initiative follows allegations by Governor Agbu Kefas regarding the presence of fictitious employees within the institution.

In a press briefing in Jalingo, Governor Agbu Kefas had expressed concerns over the reported existence of ghost workers at the university and affirmed his administration's stance against paying salaries to non-existent personnel.

Professor Sunday Bako, Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, emphasized the institution’s commitment to streamlining its workforce management through rigorous staff verification processes. He highlighted that the biometric verification system, integrated with National Identification Numbers (NINs), aims to establish a reliable database of both academic and administrative staff.

Additionally, the Vice Chancellor disclosed that the university, in collaboration with the Taraba State government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University, has reached consensus to ensure stability in the academic calendar.

"We have successfully averted any imminent ASUU strikes through productive engagements and swift actions on feasible demands. The government’s commitment to addressing our challenges, including infrastructural improvements like fencing, has been reassuring," Prof. Bako added.

The implementation of biometric verification at Taraba State University underscores a proactive approach towards enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring financial accountability within the institution.
