TETFund Expresses Concern Over Absconding Nigerian Students in Foreign Institutions

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has raised an alarm over the increasing number of its beneficiaries studying in foreign institutions who have absconded from their programs. Arc. Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, addressed this issue during a performance review meeting in Makurdi, Benue State.
Echono revealed that TETFund maintains a database of students who have abandoned their programs abroad and is actively working to address this concern. He emphasized that the situation is alarming, and while specific figures were not disclosed, he acknowledged that the number of students absconding is not encouraging.

The Executive Secretary explained that some students exceeded their course duration or relocated before completing their bond period. TETFund is collaborating with Nigerian embassies, foreign embassies, and institutions to enforce the terms of the agreement and address this challenge.
Echono also shared that TETFund has invested nearly N320 billion in projects across tertiary educational institutions nationwide in 2023.
