Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Oko-Irese, achieved another milestone in its pursuit of global academic excellence as it formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), United Kingdom, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

The event, which held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, East Campus, marked the official launch of the TAU–CIMA partnership aimed at strengthening professional education and fostering globally relevant competencies among students and faculty in the fields of management and accounting.

In her opening address, Dr. Olamide Olayemi, Head of the Department of Accounting, described the occasion as a major step in TAU’s academic growth, emphasizing that the partnership would prepare students for global professional opportunities.

The Acting Dean, Faculty of Management and Social Sciences (FMSS), Dr. Abiodun Owolabi, introduced the University Management team led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Oladipo, and highlighted that the collaboration bridges the gap between classroom learning and international professional standards.

The CIMA delegation was led by Mrs. Ijeoma Anadozie, Country Director, CIMA Nigeria, accompanied by Mr. Oluseye Denton, Business Development Manager, and Mr. Olabiyi Famurewa, Business Specialist.

Welcoming the guests, Professor Oladipo reaffirmed TAU’s commitment to partnerships that elevate the university’s academic standards and enhance student employability. “This partnership is not limited to the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences but extends to the entire university. It aligns perfectly with our vision that every TAU student graduates with at least two professional certifications alongside their degree,” she stated.

Responding, Mrs. Anadozie commended TAU’s leadership and applauded the Vice-Chancellor for her visionary drive toward innovation and student development. She explained that the collaboration would offer faculty training, mentorship opportunities, access to research grants, and international internship placements for students.

The formal signing of the MoU between Professor Oladipo and Mrs. Anadozie symbolized a shared commitment to advancing academic excellence and professional development.

The second segment of the event, held at the Yusuf Olaolu Ali Hall, West Campus, featured an interactive session with students and faculty. Associate Professor James Ishola, representing the Vice-Chancellor, described the partnership as a “transformative opportunity” that would enable students to graduate with both academic and professional qualifications.

Mr. Denton, in his presentation, outlined the benefits of the partnership, including TAU’s participation in the CGMA Business Leaders Challenge, a global competition for undergraduate students. A quiz competition followed, where Team Diamond emerged overall winner with 45 points, ahead of Team Sapphire with 41.37 points.

As part of the day’s highlight, CIMA presented a public address sound system to the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences as a gesture of partnership and support. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Sub-Dean, Dr. J.K. Abegunde, who expressed appreciation to the CIMA delegation for their productive engagement.
