UDUS Poetry Club Hosts Climate Change Discussion, Urges Immediate Action

The Poetry Club at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) urges immediate action on climate change

Held in partnership with United People Global and Project Green, a climate change initiative in Sokoto State, the event took place on June 28, 2025, at the Students' Union Secretariat, Main Campus

The event, themed "Voice for Global Challenges" raised awareness on the current climate challenges in our environment, both locally and internationally.

It also provided an opportunity for reflections on possible solutions.

Speaking at the event, Sumayyah Shuaib, the facilitator of the program and leader, United People Global, emphasized the need for urgent action, noting climate change to be one of the most threatening occurrences to man's existence.

Extreme heat waves, Shuaib explained further, death of crops, heavy flooding, and scarcity of food and water are part of the negative consequences.

Shuaib stresses the need to educate the university community to work towards achieving sustainable solutions

Reflecting on the event, Sadiq Alhassan, a 400-level student from the Faculty of Agriculture, said during an interview with Vanguard Press that not only has he learnt how our daily activities contribute to climate change, but he's also committed to creating more awareness.

Now aware of the climate change challenges, he admits, pledging his contribution to supporting initiatives, policies, and sustainable practices in agriculture.

Similarly, Hafsah Abubakar Sadi, a jambito from the Department of Applied Chemistry, also gained valuable insights from the event and now plans to raise awareness of eco-friendly habits.
