Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, at the closing ceremony of a five-day training workshop for early-career academic and non-academic staff, Mr. Saliu emphasized that the institution remains dedicated to building a workforce that meets the evolving demands of modern higher education.
The workshop, organized through a partnership between the MacArthur Foundation and the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), aimed to enhance the professional skills of staff members to improve efficiency and service delivery.
According to Mr. Saliu, “Efficiency can only be achieved when officers are equipped with the right skills and knowledge that align with today’s work realities.” He noted that the training was part of several ongoing initiatives by the University to close skill gaps and strengthen institutional performance.
He further disclosed that participants were selected from various departments and units across the University, adding that mechanisms have been established to assess the post-training impact of the workshop on participants’ job performance.
The Registrar expressed appreciation to Professor Rotimi Oderinde, the MacArthur Foundation Grants Liaison Officer, and the Digital Bridge Institute for their partnership and commitment to the programme’s success.

Representing the Head of Learning and Development at DBI, Mr. Emeka Nzeih, a Data Analyst, Dr. Ewere Nwali, commended the University for its collaboration and reaffirmed DBI’s readiness to continue supporting UI’s staff development initiatives. He explained that non-teaching staff were trained in digital skills, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies, while early-career researchers received intensive training on data analysis using SPSS and Microsoft Power BI.
Dr. Nwali emphasized that such collaborations align with DBI’s mission to foster digital competency and professional growth across educational institutions in Nigeria.
Presenting the assessor’s report on behalf of the Lead Assessor, Professor O. E. Olubusoye, the Director of the UI Research Management Office, Professor A. S. Jegede, commended the quality of engagement and the practical value of the sessions.
Also speaking, a member of the Local Organizing Committee and Senior Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Stella O. Soola, appreciated the Registrar for the confidence reposed in the committee and expressed satisfaction with the high level of commitment displayed by participants. She also lauded the DBI facilitators for their professionalism and expertise throughout the workshop.
Certificates of participation were later presented to all participants by the Registrar, Mr. Ganiyu O. Saliu.
