UNIBEN Students Rally for Justice After Denial of Exam Access

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) is facing a solidarity movement over the case of Titilope Loveth, a 300-level student in the Faculty of Agriculture who was reportedly denied access to four exams this semester. The denial follows her involvement in a viral video showing the Dean of Students allegedly attempting to assault a student during a campus blackout protest.

Titilope Loveth was barred from her exams on grounds of unpaid school fees, despite other students with similar issues being allowed to sit for their exams. According to reports, lecturers instructed her to seek approval from the Dean of Students, Professor Clement Ighodaro. The Dean reportedly refused to grant her permission unless she brought her parents to apologize on video, which was viewed as a punitive measure.

The solidarity movement, scheduled for Wednesday, 18th September 2024, at 7:00 AM, aims to address several key issues:

1. Clarify if approval from the Dean is a mandatory requirement for exam participation.

2. Determine whether students who pay their fees in the second semester are required to cover fees for both semesters.

3. Investigate why Loveth was singled out when other students with unpaid fees were permitted to take their exams.

The university community is urged to join the visit to the Faculty of Agriculture to support the student and seek justice. The University Security Department is requested to ensure order during the event.
