UNICAL VC Lauds NCC's Role in Strengthening ICT Capacity at Tertiary Institutions

Prof. Obi, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Eno Grace Nta, made the commendation during the flag-off of a five-day Digital Bridge Institute training at the APC building of the institution. She expressed her gratitude for UNICAL’s selection as one of the beneficiaries of the program, emphasizing that the training would expose staff to digital innovation, thus preparing them to contribute meaningfully to the university’s growth and progress.
"I am pleased that UNICAL is part of this important initiative, and I am confident that this training will help move our institution forward," Prof. Obi said. She further urged the participants to fully engage with the program and expressed optimism that they would apply the knowledge gained to make the university proud.
The Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at UNICAL, Dr. Edmund Essien, explained that the training, funded by the NCC, is part of an annual routine aimed at building the ICT capacity of tertiary institutions. He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity and assured them that the professional instructors, carefully selected for their expertise, would deliver quality training to enhance their digital skills.
Representing the Digital Bridge Institute, Mrs. Judith Uzougbo, thanked UNICAL’s management for their commitment to staff development and for facilitating the program. She highlighted that the training is designed to equip staff in Nigerian tertiary institutions with the skills necessary for the adoption and implementation of ICT tools in teaching and research.
"Through this initiative, we aim to build capacity and ensure that staff members are equipped to meet the evolving demands of the digital age," Mrs. Uzougbo said. She also assured participants that the trainers would give their best to ensure the successful delivery of the program.
The event marks a significant step in strengthening the ICT capabilities of UNICAL and other institutions, aligning with the national push to enhance digital literacy and innovation within Nigeria’s higher education sector.
