UNICAL VC Urges Freshmen to Prioritize Academics, Shun Vices as they Matriculate Over 11,000 Students

Prof. Obi, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita, made this call during the 47th matriculation ceremony held at the Abraham Ordia Stadium. The event formally welcomed 11,642 students admitted for the 2024/2025 academic session from a pool of 28,543 applicants.
Addressing the students, the Vice-Chancellor described them as “lucky and brilliant” for earning a place at the institution, renowned for its academic tradition. She emphasized the need to maintain discipline, warning against cultism, examination malpractice, internet fraud, and other vices that could lead to sanctions, including rustication or suspension.
“This institution is committed to providing a safe and enabling environment for learning and personal growth. We expect you to uphold the ideals of the University and allow this experience to shape you into responsible and successful individuals,” Prof. Obi stated.
She reassured the freshmen of access to highly trained lecturers and facilities to support their academic journey, urging them to take full advantage of the opportunities available.
The matriculation ceremony marks the beginning of the students’ academic journey at UNICAL, reaffirming the institution's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering excellence.
