The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has postponed examinations scheduled for March 30 and March 31, 2026, following a fatal attack by unidentified gunmen in Angwan Rukuba, a community that houses a significant number of the institution’s staff and students.

The decision was announced in a security advisory issued by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, on behalf of the Registrar, acting on the directive of the Vice-Chancellor.

According to the statement, the attack, which occurred late in the evening, has heightened tensions within and around the university environment, prompting immediate precautionary measures to safeguard members of the academic community.

The management advised students and staff to exercise heightened vigilance and limit movement both on and off campus. They were specifically cautioned against early morning outings and urged to promptly report any suspicious activity or potential security threats to the University Security Division.

The university also confirmed that it is working closely with relevant security agencies to monitor developments and stabilise the situation.
