The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has bid farewell to Professor Joash Amupitan, who has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). A special Senate session was convened to celebrate his contributions to the university and mark his transition to the electoral commission.

Professor Amupitan's colleagues and superiors praised his exceptional leadership, integrity, and commitment to justice. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rahila Plangnan, shared a personal anecdote highlighting his unwavering principles, while Vice-Chancellor Professor Tanko Ishaya described him as "dependable" and a "soft-spoken person with a lot of knowledge and wisdom".

In his acceptance speech, Professor Amupitan assured the INEC National Commissioners of his commitment to collaboration, inclusivity, and transparency, drawing on his experience managing the Anambra State gubernatorial election. He emphasized logistics, inclusivity, and transparency as the pillars of credible elections .
