The University of Lagos, College of Medicine (CMUL) Alumni Class of 1998 has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing future medical professionals through the award of research grants to students of the College.

At a ceremony held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in the New Board Room of the College, ten (10) 500-level MBBS students each received a cash prize of one hundred thousand naira (₦100,000) to support their research projects.

Speaking at the event, the Provost of CMUL, Professor Ademola Oremosu, praised the Alumni Class of ’98 for their generosity. He recalled the class’s earlier contributions, which included the donation of a solar power project to Tafawa Balewa Plaza and the organization of a symposium for medical students. According to him, “this donation will not only enhance the academic performance of beneficiaries but also inspire them to give back to their alma mater in future.”

President of the CMUL Alumni Class of 1998, Dr. Ekundayo Omogbehin, who represented the alumni group, explained that the scholarship initiative was designed to provide financial support while also encouraging innovation and research. He further pledged the group’s readiness to collaborate with the CMUL management team in training students on the entrepreneurial dimensions of the medical profession.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the President of the Association of Medical Students, University of Lagos (AMSUL), Akinsulire Modupe, expressed deep appreciation to the alumni, describing the support as a timely boost to students’ academic and research pursuits.
