UNILAG Hosts Delegates from Penn State University, Harrisburg to Strengthen Global Partnerships
UNILAG hosted delegates from Penn State University, Harrisburg, for a two-day working visit aimed at strengthening international partnerships. The delegation, including Dr. Peter Idowu, Dr. Sylvester Osagie, and Mr. Mel White, met with key university officials to explore collaboration opportunities in various fields such as Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Business Administration, and Health Sciences.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has welcomed a delegation from Penn State University, Harrisburg, for a two-day working visit aimed at fostering international collaboration.
The visiting team includes Dr. Prof. Peter Idowu, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of the PPL Electric Utilities Power Lab; Dr. Sylvester Osagie, Associate Director for Africa Partnerships; and Mr. Mel White, Senior Director for Special Projects and Coordination. Accompanied by Dr. Victor Onifade, Deputy Director of International Relations, Partnerships, and Prospects (IRPP), the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the university management on February 3, 2025.
Key UNILAG officials who received the delegation include Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa; Registrar, Mrs. Abosede Wickliffe; and faculty deans from Science, Engineering, and Environmental Sciences.
During the meeting, Prof. Idowu emphasized the visit's objective of exploring joint opportunities in disciplines such as Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, Health Sciences, and Liberal Arts. Dr. Osagie further highlighted faculty exchange opportunities through the Fulbright Scholarship Programme and an upcoming virtual workshop involving Penn State, Rutgers University, and Nigerian institutions.
Prof. Atsenuwa reaffirmed UNILAG's commitment to enhancing its global reputation in higher education, stressing the need for balanced collaborations that allow international scholars to engage with Africa’s academic landscape. She also noted recent infrastructural improvements, such as fully furnished Scholars Suites, designed to accommodate visiting academics.
The meeting concluded with discussions on dual and joint degree programs, research commercialization, and future partnership expansions. The delegation proceeded to the IRPP Office for further deliberations after a group photograph session.
