The 2024 University of Lagos (UNILAG) International Week culminated on Thursday, October 24, 2024, with a powerful showcase of a documentary highlighting Women in Sciences in Africa and a thought-provoking panel discussion on Area Studies. Held at the Tayo Aderinokun Hall, the event featured renowned academics, including Professor Olabode Ibironke, Head of African Studies at Rutgers University, alongside scholars from UNILAG and the University of Exeter.

Professor Ibironke led the panel with an insightful breakdown of Area Studies, emphasizing its importance in knowledge creation, its interdisciplinary nature, and its potential to drive collaborations in academic research. Panelists Gerald Hensing, Belen Calvo Hereza, Professors William Gallois, Tom Trevor, and Sajjad Rizvi contributed by exploring Area Studies as a crucial academic discipline for advancing global studies and intellectual impact.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services) of UNILAG, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, closed the session, praising the resource persons for expanding the frontiers of knowledge throughout the 3-day event.
