UNILAG Undergraduate Secures Top Spot in Entrepreneurial Start-up Competition with Revolutionary Tech Innovation
In a highly anticipated showdown of innovative prowess, the 2023 Project Innovation 2 Marketing (I2M) Accelerated Incubator Programme has declared its victors, elevating young entrepreneurs from across Africa into the limelight. This annual competition, which aims to spotlight the most promising start-up ventures in the region, witnessed a remarkable turn of events this year as an undergraduate from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) claimed the coveted grand prize with a groundbreaking technological innovation.
Mr. Barnabas Peter, a tenacious 300-level student in the Department of Finance at UNILAG, emerged as the triumphant contender in the Start-up Pitch Competition during the 2023 Project Innovation 2 Marketing (I2M) Accelerated Incubator Programme. The event, hosted by the Innovation Technology Management Office (ITMO) at UNILAG, unfolded on November 3, 2023, and showcased the entrepreneurial brilliance of young talents hailing from various corners of the nation.

This year's installment of the competition, hailing from the stable of Project Innovation 2 Marketing (I2M) Accelerated Incubator Programme, witnessed a profound shift in the entrepreneurial landscape. Barnabas Peter's innovative project, "Travaye," a digital platform designed to assist tourists, individuals with limited incomes, and those in search of exciting destinations, claimed the top honor. His success is a testament to the transformative power of a rigorous six-week incubation program that honed his business acumen and entrepreneurial skills.
The crowning ceremony took place at the prestigious Arthur Mabnefo Digital Research Centre (AMDRC) at UNILAG and was graced by the esteemed presence of Engineer Jennifer Adighije, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Digital Economy, Communication, and Innovation to the President of Nigeria. Her attendance underscored the event's significance and the government's unwavering support for the emerging wave of entrepreneurs in the country.
The event, a dynamic hybrid of in-person and virtual experiences, also shone a spotlight on other enterprising individuals who showcased a diverse array of start-up products and services across multiple sectors, including technology, agriculture, healthcare, and e-commerce. Notable innovators in the spotlight included Mrs. Chiemela Anosike of Solaris.ng and Sunday-Dogo Peter of Gonana.
