Dr. Hafsat Abolore Ameen, an associate professor at the Department of Epidemiology and Community Health, College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, has emphasized the importance of knowing one's health status to prevent sudden deaths.

Speaking during a health talk as part of the annual Ramadan lecture of the Ilorin Emirate Staff Association at the University of Ilorin, Dr. Ameen highlighted that many cases of sudden deaths are not truly sudden but occur due to ignorance or negligence of symptoms of terminal illnesses.

Dr. Ameen stressed the necessity of regular health check-ups to monitor indicators such as Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar level, Lipid profile, and Body Mass Index (BMI). She emphasized the importance of taking these evaluations seriously, especially for individuals who are obese or have a family history of health issues.

As a Consultant Epidemiologist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Dr. Ameen emphasized that adults should prioritize their health needs regardless of their circumstances. Additionally, she called on the Federal Government to allocate more resources to the health sector, emphasizing the critical role of a healthy population in the nation's progress.
