The University of Africa Toru-orua Student Union Government (SUG) on Thursday 18th April, 2024 launched the transportation scheme of the UAT SUG.

The University of Africa Toru-orua Student Union Government (SUG) on Thursday 18th April, 2024 launched the transportation scheme of the UAT SUG.

The scheme is to ease the high transport burden on students of the University traveling from Yenagoa to Toru-orua and Toru-orua to Yenagoa respectively.

Presenting the first enlisted bus on the scheme to the Management of the University, the SUG president Comrade Ebikela Sanu in company of the SUG Director of Transport, Comrade Zipador Oyinpreye and other SUG Executives, informed the Management of the University that the bus will run at a subsidized rate of Two Thousand Naira (N2000) per trip to and from Yenagoa.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Ebobrah, congratulated and lauded the entrepreneurial drive of the SUG and urged them to resolve all conflicts amicably, while also admonishing the driver to be patient with the students.

Speaking at the presentation, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Barclays Ayakoroma, urged the students to ensure that all proper arrangements are made with the necessary motor park authorities in yenagoa and Toru-orua in order to avoid unnecessary confrontations with park authorities. He further urged other transporters to enlist in the scheme, as it promises not only to be lucrative for them but also beneficial to the students.

The buses are to operate from the University campus beside the Engineering block and at the last park along Imiringi road, by Etegwe/ Tombia Roundabout in Yenagoa. The fare is Two Thousand Naira (N2000) per trip.

The scheme is an initiative by the Comrade Ebikela led Executives to cushion the effects of the current inflation rate on the UAT students.
