University of Ilorin Takes Firm Stance: Expels Student for Ransom Demand, Rusticates Another for Assault

The University of Ilorin has recently taken disciplinary action against two students following separate incidents of misconduct on campus. In a statement released through its weekly bulletin, the university announced the expulsion of a 100-level student identified as Olanrewaju Abdulkabir Abdulkadri.

Abdulkadri, enrolled in the Department of Information Technology within the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, faced expulsion for allegedly demanding ransom from the parents of a missing fellow student.

Additionally, the university rusticated a 400-level student, Segun Micheal Oyewole, from the Department of Counsellor Education in the Faculty of Education. Oyewole received this penalty after being found guilty of assaulting a female student. The rustication, which spans one academic session, serves as a disciplinary measure to address the student's misconduct and uphold the institution's standards of behavior.

These disciplinary actions come in the wake of the university's commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment for all students and staff members. The decisions were made based on recommendations from the Students' Disciplinary Committee during its 220th/221st meeting. It is part of the institution's efforts to enforce discipline and ensure adherence to its code of conduct among its student body.

Earlier in April, the university took similar actions against 19 students involved in misconduct, theft, examination malpractice, hostel bed-space racketeering, extortion, assault, and admission racketeering.

These disciplinary measures indicates the university's commitment to upholding academic integrity and fostering a conducive learning environment.
